Thunderball
The Thunderball draw is a lottery of the National Lottery of the United Kingdom (UK). The first draw was in June 1999. Draws are being held on Saturday and Wednesday and broadcasted live on BBC one.
The lottery consists of two connected draws. The first one is 5 out of 34 and ascertains the main numbers. The second one is a 1 out of 14 draw and determines the Thunderball number. In order to win either the Thunderball number and at least one main number or at least three main numbers must match.
There are in total 8 different winning classes in the Thunderball lotto, with fixed prize money.
To win the first class, which will be awarded with £250,000, all five main numbers and the Thunderball-Number must be right. The odds are 1:3.9 Million. The second winning class requires the five main numbers matching, but not the Thunderball Number. The odds are 1:299,661 and the price money is £5,000.
Four matching main numbers and the Thunderball-Number brings the third winning class. The odds for getting that are 1:26,866. Consequently, the fourth winning class requires four right numbers, without the Thunderball-Number. The odds to this are 1:2,067. The payout for the third class is £250 and for the 4th class £100.
The 5th winning class is rewarded with £20 and requires three matching main numbers and the Thunderball-Number with odds for that at 1:960, while the 6th winning class will give you £10 for three right numbers. The chances to hit this are 1:74.
The 7th winning class will award £10 for two matching main numbers and the Thunderball-Number. The odds to reach that are 1:107. The 8th and final winning class requires only one right number and the Thunderball-Number. The chances to get those 8th class £5 are 1:33.
How to play:
In order to participate the player fills in a Thunderball Play Slip, which shows five rows. Each of these rows has two boxes in it. One first box reads "Select Five" and comprises the numbers 1 to 43, the second box read "select one" and shows the numbers 1 to 14. There is also the opportunity to have the terminal choose the numbers randomly. In this case the "Lucky Dip" box in the rows should be marked. It is not recommended to do both together: selecting numbers and mark the "Lucky Dip" box.
The amount of bets is not limited. In order to play more than one bet, just fill in another row. Each row costs £1. The marking of the numbers should be done with pencil, black or blue pen. If a mistake occurs the "void" box might be ticked and another row used instead.
The same Thunderball Play Slip might be used up to eight consecutive weeks. For that, the part "No. of Weeks" needs to be filled. However, one should bear in mind, that advance paying is asked for the bets. The bets will be valid for the next upcoming price draw.
How to claim your winnings:
First of all it is important to notice that in contrast to the National Lottery of the United Kingdom two matching numbers are enough to win: the Thunderball number and one out of your five chosen main numbers.
For prize money up to £75 any National Lottery retailer will pay in cash. The winning ticket is required and checked at the Lottery terminal. The National Lottery retailer might even pay up to £200 in cash, according to his or her own judgment. A few National Lottery retailers are accredited to cash out winnings up to £500. For winning amounts up to £10,000, please turn to the National Post Offices. Prize money above £500 will not be cashed but rather handed over by a cheque.
For winnings above £10,000, please contact in person the National Lottery Regional Centre at once. For these first winning class players the National Lottery has opened a telephone line, which will help in claiming the prize money. The telephone number is 0845 9 100 000.
Generally, in order to claim a prize over £500, a Prize Claim Form needs to be filled in. An identity check is mandatory. For a big winning sum, the winning ticket may also undergo a precise checking. There is a limited time for claiming any prize money from the National Lottery: 180 days after the draw.
