Sweden Lottery - Svenska Spel

History of the game

The Swedish lottery has a long history and can be dated back to the year 1896, the year the Lotteriexpeditionen was founded. The following year the first lotto game was launched followed by the company name changed to Penninglotteriet. In 1943 the state owned company Tipstjanst was founded, becoming New Sweden Lottery Company, owning Sweden's most popular Lotto game. The game changed hands and is now owned and operated by Svenska Spel ("Swedish Games"), Sweden biggest gaming provider controlling half the gaming market. The license to operate the games is awarded by the Swedish government, the sole owner of gaming.

Svenska Spel offers a variety of lottery games as well as sports related including Langen, Bomben, Stryktipset football pools and Topptipset. Additional games include "Instant Win Games" like Triss, slot machines, Live Bingo and what is called "Number Games" as their main and biggest line of products. In this group are included Keno, Bingo and the biggest game, the Sweden Lotto.

Game Overview

The Swedish lottery game is a 7 out of 35 draw game operated by Svenska Spel, the national lottery and gaming firm in Sweden. This game has the lowest pool of numbers to pick from among all nations that operate lotto. The game was initiated in 1980 by the company Tipstjanst and was later managed by Svenska Spel. The game draw is every Wednesday and Saturday and they are designated as Lotto 1 and Lotto 2. "Joker" is an additional option when playing the Swedish Lotto and winning the game with a "joker" enlargers the prize sum significantly. Winning the game this way is called "Dromvisten" or "Dream Profit". The "joker" is 2 additional numbers the player must match; hence in order to win the "Dromvisten" the player must match both 7 main numbers plus the 2 "joker" numbers.

The minimum sum for winning the "Dromvisten" ("Dream Profit") is 75 million SEK. If no one matches the numbers the sum is rolled over to the next week. There is no limitation on how many times this can happen. When the jackpot is finally won it goes back down to 75 million SEK

Playing the Game

The Swedish lottery is a 7 out of 35 game. The player picks 7 numbers from 1 to 35 and if they are matched the player wins the jackpot. The player picks also a bonus number and guessing 6 numbers plus the bonus number awards the player with second place prize. Svenska Spel offers 4 additional options allowing the player to win prizes. The options are valid twice per week in conjunction with the Sweden Lotto. The "QuickPick" machines are called in Sweden "HuxFlux" and they are available at every retailer. The "HuxFlux" generates random lottery numbers for the player. Each game cost in Sweden 3 SEK.
