In 1972 The North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) was founded. This group was created initially by the informal sharing of information between three pioneering lottery directors. Now the organization has 52 lottery associations as active members of the group.

NASPL Mission

Since its creation, the Association's membership and services have certainly expanded, but its basic mission has remained unchanged- to assemble and disseminate information and benefits of state and provincial lottery organizations through education and communications and where appropriate publicly advocate the positions of the Association on matters of general policy. Some of the functions of the NASPL are:

  • Provide a centralized information system that member lottery associations are able to share expertise, advice and resources.
  • To facilitate the education and training of the lottery staff.
  • To provide a platform where members can voice their suggestions regarding the development of industry standards and matters of mutual interest, specifically the areas of integrity, security, jurisdictions, and the efficiency of state.
  • Provide a medium for industrial and professional research and development.
  • To create a united, public voice on common issues and causes.
  • To promote the recognition of how important public confidence and support for state and provincial sponsored lottery organizations are as a necessary means of generating revenue to meet ongoing public needs.
