Missouri Lottery

The state government of Missouri runs the Missouri Lottery, which is a member of the Multi-State lottery Association (MUSL). The first drawing for the MUSL lottery took place in 1988.

On January 20, 1986, the Missouri Lottery began selling tickets where an executive director oversees the operations of the Lottery and reports to a panel of five members that are appointed by the governor.

At the beginning of the lottery, the proceeds were directed to the General Revenue Fund of the state. However, in 1992, Missouri voters approved Amendment 11 that earmarked the proceeds for public education. Since July 1993, all the monies that were collected have gone to elementary, secondary and higher-education programs. The state legislature appropriates the lottery proceeds.

The state's lottery has several games that offered which include pull-tabs, Scratcher tickets, as well as several online games such as Pick 3, Pick 4, Show me Ca$h, Missouri Lotto, Club Keno and the multi-lottery Powerball game.

The mission of the Missouri Lottery is stated as "To maximize revenues for public education through the creation and sale of fun and entertaining products consistent with the highest levels of service, integrity and public accountability."

The state of Missouri has a minimum age in order to purchase a lottery ticket which is 18.
