Michigan Lottery

The lottery that is offered from the state of Michigan offers players various scratch-off and online games that provide a wide selection of prizes.

November 13, 1972 marked the beginning of the Michigan Lottery with the Green Ticket Game. The first instant game ticket was purchased on October 7, 1975. The Daily 3 game was introduced on June 6, 1977, which started the first terminal-based game. August 31, 1996 was the first time a Big Game Ticket was sold. (The Mega Millions game was previously known as the 12-member game.) The Michigan Lottery has contributed more than .5 Billion dollars to the School Aid Fund since it began in 1972.

Lottery Products

The various lottery games that are offered by the Michigan Lottery include online games where drawings are picked for the winning numbers and include games such as Mega Millions and Classic Lotto 47. Also, scratch-off games and pull-tabs, where players pull on perforated tabs to reveal the price rather than scratching the ticket, are among the other games offered.

Scratch Games

To play a scratch-off lottery game from the Michigan Lottery, participants need to purchase a ticket and scratch off the indicated boxes per the instructions listed. Each ticket may contain separate games and prize structures. There are on average 70 new scratch-off games that are introduced each year by the Michigan Lottery and the games are priced between and dollars with prizes that range up to Million dollars.

Terminal-Based Games

Tickets to play a terminal-based game are purchased from lottery terminals which are connected to a central system. A drawing is then held to determine the winning numbers and can occur depending on the game played. For example, Club Keno occurs every four minutes, Daily 3 & 4 take place twice a day, Fantasy 5 and Keno have daily drawings, and Mega Millions and Classic Lotto 47 take place twice a week.

Mega Millions

This lottery game is played in many jurisdictions of the United States. To play the game, players select five numbers between 1 and 56 and one number between 1 and 46, which is the Mega Ball. If all six numbers match the winning numbers, the ticket holder wins the multi-million dollar jackpot.

As of 2009, the beginning jackpot for this game begins at Million dollars as an annuity and will steadily increase when there is no winner on each of the bi-weekly drawings. The drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday and offer winners a cash lump-sum or annuity payout.

Michigan can add the Powerball game to the number of games offered once the Multi-State Lottery Association and the other 12 Mega Million members which administer the Powerball game.

Classic Lotto 47

This game was started on May 15, 2005 when it replaced the Winfall game. To play, players choose 6 numbers out of a pool of 47 numbers. The drawings for this game take place twice a week and the jackpot prize begins at million dollars. The odds of winning this game are 1:11 million. This game has its winning numbers drawn by a Random Number Generator (RNG), which is not typical of Michigan lottery games.

Fantasy 5

This game began on September 12, 2004 when it replaced the Rolldown game. The drawings for this game are held every day and have jackpots that begin at 0,000. Players choose 5 numbers out of a pool of 39. If there is no prize winner for that drawing, the jackpot will increase a minimum of ,000.

Daily 3 & Daily 4

These games have drawings which occur twice a day and are played every day of the week. These games have several ways they can be played; a wager can win 0 in Daily 3 or ,000 in Daily 4.

Keno!

This game began in 1990 and players choose 10 numbers out of a pool of 80. The drawings occur daily and a total of 22 numbers are chose. If a player is able to match all 10 numbers, they would win a jackpot of 0,000. There are also various levels of prizes for matching 9 or less numbers. Players can also choose the scratch ticket, which offers a prize for not matching any of the numbers.

Club Games

The Club Games program was added in 2003 and consists of the Club Keno game, as well as pull-tab games that are typically sold at bars, bowling alleys, and restaurants.

Players of the Club Keno game elect 10 numbers out of a pool of 80. The drawings occur every four minutes and there are 20 winning numbers that are drawn. Wagers can range from to with the top prize being 0,000 for a bet.
