Lottery of Germany (6/49)
The Deutscher Lotto und Totoblock (DLTB) operates the German Lottery. It is played as draw-style lotto, has a jackpot and is the most favorite Lotto game in Germany. If no player hits the jackpot, the sum is transferred to the next drawing, until there will be a winner. The weekly number draws are being held Wednesday at 18.45 and Saturday at 19.50.
Another 6/49 Lottery game
The first 6 out of 49 Lotto appeared 1955 in four states of Germany. All the Western Germany states were operating their own Lotto companies by 1959. In 1962 a joined contract regulated the drawing of the winning numbers, the winning odds, the pooling of the revenues and the prize money. In 1974 the Deutscher Lotto und Totoblock (DLTB) was founded; 1992 the states of former East Germany joined the DLTB. Later the Jackpot and a Super-Number, which is drawn as a separate 1 out of 10, were added to the German Lotto game.
Each of the sixteen states of Germany owns an independent national lottery company (Lotteriegesellschaft). The collaborative partnership of these national lottery companies is the Deutscher Lotto und Totoblock. However, the 16 partners run their business independent from each other with one of them taking the chair and presidency of the Deutscher Lotto und Totoblock for a duration of three consecutive years.
The DLTB offers approved games nationwide. They are sold at authorized retailers. However, Selling lotto online is forbidden in Germany since the 1st January 2009.
Deutscher Lotto und Totoblock
Besides the favorite game in Germany, the 6 out of 49 Lotto, the Deutscher Lotto und Totoblock offers some additional games such as Gluecks-Spirale, Oddset, Keno and Toto.
As one of the most richest lotteries in Europe, the German 6 out of 49 Lotto pays up to 2.8 Billion Euro each year to it's winners. The biggest jackpot paid to a single person was 37.6 Million Euro - paid in October 2006. The average jackpot is 5.3 Million Euros. Therefore it is worth a while to look at the odds of winning a sizeable jackpot:
- There are 8 different winning classes in the German lottery and the chances to win in one of them are very competitive, as this means there are quite some sums to be won each week.
- To win the first class, which includes the jackpot money, you need all six numbers including the Super-Number matched right. the odds are 1:139.8 Million. The second winning class, requires the six numbers matching, but without the Super-Number. The odds are at 1:13.9 Million.
- The third winning class is won by five matching numbers and the Super-Number. The odds for that are 1:2.3 Million. Consequently, the fourth winning class requires five right numbers, without the Super-Number. The odds are 1:55,491.
- The fifth winning class requires four matching numbers and the Super-Number with odds standing at 1:22,197, while the sixth winning class will award you money for four right numbers. The chances to hit this are 1:1033.
The seventh winning class will honor three matching numbers and the Super-Number. The odds to reach that are 1:812. The eight and final winning class requires only 3 right numbers and the chances to get there are 1:57.
In total, in the German Lotto you have an overall winning chance of 1:54 or 1.86%.
