Ca$hola (Cashola)

Ca$hola, the unique multi-jurisdictional video lottery game was introduced in 2006 by the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL). The linked gaming slot machines are located in West Virginia (Charles Town, Charleston, Wheeling Island & Chester), Delaware (Dover, Harrington & Wimington) and Rhode Island (Lincoln & Newport).

The game is played on Video Lottery machines and the player bets up to .25 and can win at least 0,000. The different machines have different themes as well as diverse minimum values, such as quarter, penny or nickel. Even the minimum age requirement (from 18 to 21) changes according to the place where the machines are located. A game is won once 5 symbols align in the designated area.

The Cashola jackpot

The Ca$hola jackpot is paid over a 29-year period with 30 annual payments. Because of the unique multi-jurisdictional character of the game the won jackpot is paid about 14 days after a prize was claimed. A winner can always choose to receive the jackpot in one single payment.

The sum will be equivalent to the sum funding the annual payments. The request must be made within 60 days. In contrary to other lottery games, the Ca$hola prize is paid to a single winner and cannot be divided to different winners.

Since the game was launched the highest jackpot reached the .7 million in annual payments, on June 15th, 2007. Up to date (February 2009) none of the prizewinners requested to receive the money in the annual form.

Due to the games success, Mega Millions and the Multi-State Lottery Association are attempting to find a way for both games to be available in all 43 US states as well as the U.S. Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia. These are the 45 jurisdictions, which legalized lottery sales. Upon achieving such an agreement all members of the Mega Million can offer Ca$hola as part of their lottery games. Thus allowing them to become part of the Multi-State Lottery Association.
