Arkansas Lottery

September 14, 2009 marked the very first shipment of Arkansas Lottery tickets that would go on sale. According to the Arkansas News Bureau, the truckload of tickets arrived at the Scientific Games warehouse that is located in Little Rock, Arkansas. The event was commemorated by an official ceremony that broke the seal on the truck's delivery doors.

All of the tickets went on sale at midnight on September 28, 2009 after being distributed to 1,500 retailers. The lottery logo was also revealed as the official countdown to sales was underway. The net proceeds of the lottery sales will be used for Arkansas college student scholarships. Arkansas Lottery in not a national lottery but a local state lottery.

The Arkansas Lottery Commission

The Arkansas Lottery Commission has approved to set aside $200,000 of startup funds to train counselors that will service gambler addicts. The Arkansas state laws mandates a gambling problem program through the use of unclaimed prized on lottery games. However, the Commission wanted to get a jump start on the program, so they opted to use some of their startup funds.

The Department of Human Services

The Department of Human Services will be receiving the startup funds under the direction of the Commission's nine member panel. The new program will direct callers to a national gambling hotline. Those callers offering startup grants for gambling addiction services will also be directed to the hotline. There are also plans to create a Gamblers Anonymous program in cities all over the state that need it.
